I am going to put things on my page like, pictures of my two cats and my family, story's that I write and all sorts of things about my classroom. My cats names are Poncho and Mac. Poncho is black and his stomach is white. Mac is more fat then Poncho and Poncho is older! Mac has orange and white stripes. Here is some things you should know about me- my favorite color is lavender, my favorite food is spaghetti and I LOVE cats. I also love eating at Max and Ermas. I like playing soccer and I play on Goysel for a team named Dublin Cross. Were not amazing, but were ok. But I'm friends with the people on my team. My birthday is February 1st and I have 4 sisters and 1 brother. :)
10/1/09
My sisters names are, Lindsey, Rylee, Stacy, Kelli and my brothers name is Brett. Today in school, we got to watch some brain pop movies. I love hearing all the brain pop movies go POP!!! :0

10/2/09
Right now I'm sitting at Grace Demboski's seat with my friends Rachael and Payton. Today we had a science test. YIKES!
Tomorrow, I'm playing a soccer game then sleeping over at Rachel Afeldts house!:)
10/5/09
Today at home, I got to finish my story on my page. It's called Trip To Pelee Island. I hope you like it! Today in science, we started a new unit about government. We also got extra resses! I played soccer. The teams were the girls, Camden, Connor and Mr.k vs the boys. The boys usually win, but today we tied! 1 to 1! Mr.k helped us a lot. Also Camden was a good goal keeper. Also Connor was good at passing and defending. I'm pretty tired from Rachel's sleep over. I'm playing soccer tomorrow I'm vs the Dynimites. YIKES! Good luck to me and my team! :0
10/6/09
I love working on our wikis. They are so much fun. I can't wait until we get to put pictures, videos, and all sorts of things like that on our wiki. The book I am reading right now is FOUND. It's amazing so far. People of the Wolfhounds, read these sentence very carefully:READ THE BOOK FOUND! IT'S AMAZING!
Like I told you yesterday, I'm playing soccer vs the Dynimites. Again, good luck for Dublin Cross!:)

10/7/09
As you know, I played the Dynimites yesterday. So heres what the game was like: My team was playing really hard in the first half. We really wanted to score so we could beat them! I got a pass from Jessica Blake and I scored! It was 1 to 0! But we had to keep it like that. I was running down the field with the ball and... I SCORED AGAIN! With only 30 seconds left! We Won!
10/9/09
I get to go to a volleyball clinic tonight with a girl that I know. I just figured out that I'm not going, because the coach was sick, so I didn't have it. So to take up the time, I took a 1 hour nap and it felt so good. I woke up and had some mac and cheese that my mom made. That taste so good.

11/5/09
Sorry I've not talked on my fun stuff lately. I finished soccer and we got second place in the tournament! Also, I finished my volleyball season which my mom coached, so it was fun. We didn't have a tournament though. A couple of days ago, we had a end of the season party for volleyball. We played a fun game with just my team. Then after, we had cookies that had our numbers on them. But sadly, we didn't have an end of the year party for soccer. By! :)

10/9/09
I am so glad that I don't have sports or anything today. I have been really tired lately. Now I'm going to type some poems below. By! :)

Poems by Dana

My Cats Are Not Alike

Mac hates Poncho,
Poncho hates Mac,
Mac eats a lot,
Poncho does not,
Mac steals the house key,
And only thing they have in common is...
They both love me!!

Halloween

Spooky sounds,
are fun to hear,
spooky costumes,
I love to wear,
spooky shaped candy,
I love to eat
spooky-faced pumpkins,
I love to make,
how about I just say...
I LOVE HALLOWEEN!

Halloween

Spooky sounds,
are fun to hear,

Spooky costumes,
I love to wear,

Spooky shaped candy,
I love to eat,

Spooky-faced pumpkins,
I love to make,

How about I just say...
I LOVE HALLOWEEN!

Volleyball

Bump! Set! Spike!
hit that ball on the floor,
the crowd really wants more!
Run! Dive!
Am I really alive?

Volleyball (I pushed words to the right)

Bump!

Spike!

hit that ball on the floor,
the crowd really wants more!

Run!

Am I really alive?

My Family

Brett,
Kelli,
Stacy,
Rylee,
Lindsey,
and me!
I can't believe,
I have eight people in my family!
Brett likes eating chips in bowls,
Kelli likes eating rolls,
Stacy takes 20 minute showers,
Rylee is not a lover of cauliflower,
Lindsey is sleeping and snoring,
how could people think my family is so boring?

Dana,
I love the last line to the poem. I think it adds a surprise twist the reader wouldn't expect. I also like how you tried to use rhyme. We talked about keep playing around with ideas to describe your family, but you should really think about "publishing" this outside of your Wiki page.
Mr. K.
Mr.K,
Thanks for the advice. I should think about publishing that poem. Thanks for the compliments also. I also liked that last line of the poem.
Dana

My Family

Brett,
Kelli,
Stacy,
Rylee,
Lindsey,
and me!
I can't believe,
I have eight people in my family!
Brett likes eating chips in bowls,
Kelli is out of control,
Stacy takes 20 minute showers,
Rylee is not a lover of cauliflower,
Lindsey is sleeping and snoring,
how could people think my family is so boring?

Lunch Sounds

Munch, Munch,
crunch, crunch,
Lunch! Lunch!
and that leads me to...
I'M LATE FOR LUNCH!

Lunch Sounds

Munch, Munch, (I slanted the words to the right like stairs)
crunch, crunch,
Lunch! Lunch!
and that leads me to...
I'M LATE FOR LUNCH!!!!!!

There Go My Cats

Pitter patter, pitter patter,
there goes Mac,
pitter patter, pitter patter,
there goes Poncho,
pitter patter, pitter patter,
there goes me!
I'm chasing after them because they just hissed at me!

There Go My Cats

Pitter patter, pitter patter,
there goes Mac, (I slanted the words to the right like stairs)

pitter patter, pitter patter,
there goes Poncho,

pitter patter, pitter patter,
there goes me!

I'm chasing after them because they just hissed at me!

At The Dinner Table

Whenever Brett or Kelli comes back from college,
and were eating dinner,
me,Lindsey and Rylee,
tend to get really crazy,
and my dad just sits there,
and nods his head saying to Brett or Kelli,
"Every night, Every night."

I'm Trapped In A Cage

This poem is bad,
It will make you so mad,
I'm trapped in a cage,
because I read this page.

When We Got Our Cat

When we got our cat Poncho,
I thought he was really scary,
he would squat,
and I thought he was going to pounce,
so I would jump on the bed and scream,
but now I'm 9 and he is 4,
and I love him so much!!!

When We Got Our Cat

When we got our cat Poncho,
I thought he was really scary.

Poncho was like a biting dog to me.

He would sit on the ground and squat,
and I thought he was going to pounce,
So I would jump on the bed and scream.

But now I'm 9 and he is 4,
and now I love him so much!!!

Writing This Poem

Words I'm writing down, (I slanted the words like stairs)
letters placed on the paper,
me thinking so hard,
So read this poem,
I bet-I know,
that it's really good!

Cookies

Cookies are yummy, (I slanted the words to the right and stacked them like stairs)
yes they are,
don't get me started on a chocolate bar!

Candy Store

When I walk in the candy store,
I wish it was all free,
all the yummy candy,
staring at me.

When I pick one up,
I can't resist,
eating one up!

My Dad

I can not wish that I had,
a better Dad,
than I have.

He kills bugs,
tucks me in at night,
he is amazing at grilling out steaks,
so I think that he is the best Dad in the world!

Poncho

Black on the top,
white underneath,

skinny as can be,
nice as can be,
and cutest cat as can be!

Making A Book

Settings, Plots, characters,
makes a book.

Action, comedy, makes a book,
but you have to make sure a book is good,
to make a book.

School

School has so many rules,
it makes me so mad that they don't have pools.

So much homework,
so many tests,
I would rater live in a birds nest!

Dana's Plant Project

Habitat:

The Dazzle plant lives in the Taiga. The Taiga has some parts of permafrost and some layers of rock under the soil. I want my plant to have good nutrients, sunlight and not to much rain, so the Taiga is perfect. The Taiga is like regular forests.

The Dazzle Plant:

The Dazzle plant is 1 and a half feet tall and 1 foot wide because it has lots of big leaves. The stem is brown like a tree and the leaves are green and the flowers are blue. Not many leaves grow on the stem but I put three. My stem is woody like a tree. On the leaves there are flowers.

Adaptions:

The Dazzle plant is evergreen so it can photosynthesize right away when the temperature rises. The Dazzle plant has needle-like leaves the shape looses less water and also they shed snow easily. The needles need to be waxy because waxy needles prevent evaporation. The needles need to be dark in color because then more solar heat can be absorbed. Branches that are droopy help shed excess snow so the branches don't break.

How It lives:

Most plants in the Taiga are perennials because most plants are trees. The dazzle plant is a perennial because it is like a tree but a flower. The dazzle plants life cycle is: First it germinates, then keeps growing and it comes back from the winter every year. It lives for a long time. The Dazzle plant gets pollinated by insects. If the insect crawls on the Anther of the flower, it will get pollen on its hands or feet, to carrie to another plant. If the insect crawls on the stigma, the stigma will collect pollen from its feet or hands because it has been on other plants Anthers.

Dana, Your work here looks really good. Try to be careful about interchanging needles and leaves. Try to pick one or the other. Technically needles are leaves, but I think your reader will better understand your work if you just use needles instead of both.
Mr. K.

Mr.k,
I will think about how I word my adaption sentence with the needles and leaves.

Trip To Pelee Island

Boom! Boom! I could hear my mom coming up the stairs to wake me up. Then I realized, that was the day that we got to go to Pelee Island with my cousins! I JUMPED out of bed, packed what I needed and got dressed. It was a hassle waiting for everyone to do that though. We loaded up the car, and started to drive to Sandusky.[thats where we get on the boat.] About half way through, we stopped at Subway. My cousins couldn't come the first day because Nick and Michael, [my cousins] had football practice. When we got to Sandusky, we got our boat tickets and got on the boat. To get to Pelee Island, it's about 2 hours and 15 minutes on the boat. My dad bought me and my sister little DVD players, so we got to watch a movie. I watched Alvin And The Chipmunks. When we got there, we had to drive about 5 to 10 minutes to get to our cottage. When I got out of the car, I could feel the ocean waves splashing and hitting me. It felt good to feel that. I was SO excited. I walked down to the beach and looked fo sea glass and lucky stones. I only found about 3 pieces of sea glass. [not very lucky today.] It was getting to the time we eat dinner. We usually go out to eat or eat hotdogs or hamburgers. Tonight we went to a resturaunt called The Anker In. It sounds like a hotel name but it's not, it's a resturaunt. We all can get rolls, salad and soup for free! Then I get the buffet or something from the menu. After, the parents get coffee and we get cake or pie. When we got back, I got ready for bed and went to bed. It was kind of hard falling asleep because I was so excited to see my cousins and play with them. The next morning, I had a poptart and some scrambled eggs. At 12:00 we had to go get my cousins. On the way to the airport, I had butterflies in my stomach because I was SO excited! It was rainy that day so we were all kind of sad. My aunt was most upset because she really wanted nice weather. We knew that because she called us and told us. We saw their plane and said hi. We were talking about what sports I play and where we ate last night. When we got back, me, my sister and my cousin Michael played spoons, then all around the world Monopoly. When we all got bored, and the rain cleared up, we all went down to the baseball fields. When we all got hot and sweaty, we went for one more inning then at the end it was tied. We were going to play again tomorrow. We got back and me, my sister and my cousin Nick watched a movie called The Prince Of Egipt. It was hard chosing what beds we were going to sleep in because we all wanted to sleep with them. We finally decided and I got to sleep with them! So did my sister Lindsey. Lindsey and Michael always wake up first so of course they did this morning. I woke up and walked downstairs and my parents always say" there you are" and it gets kind of annoying. I got my poptart and some milk and sat down. We don't have any cable here so we can only watch VCR movies. We went to the beach when everyone was done eating breakfast. We also got to ride on jetskies!! I went with my dad then with my brother Brett. After, we played a mini game of baseball. At the end it was tied 4 to 4! We had to score! My dad hit it, I ran home and... WE WON! 5 to 4! But of course we had to go back to the boat. We were early so we got ice cream. I got mint chocolate chip in a cone. I went downstairs on the boat and played cards with Michael and Lindsey. When we got close to Sandusky, me and Lindsey went to go toss cheeze-its out to the birds. It was funny because the wind was so hard, sometimes the cheeze-its would fly right back at us. We all got off the boat and said bye. We were going to eat at Taco Bell, but my dad surprised us, and went to Max and Ermas! I got a cheeseburger and ate it all. After, I got a sundae and got ready to go. When we got home, we were all so tired. I went up to my bed and thought to myself, "I wish I could go back in time and have that vacation all over again."

THE END

The white flag makes me think that it is more important because it is worn out or "tired" because it is so old. Also it makes me think that maybe it was hung during a war because then for every person that died, the colors of the white flag got drained out a little. Now I look at both flags differently because they are so different compared to each other.

The Hopewell Culture

How They Survived

The Hopewell people traveled a lot like to Great Lakes for copper, Florida for shells, and more. Like some other cultures, the Hopewell people were a very peaceful environment. We wonder why they settled here because they're always on journeys finding stuff. For there jewlerey and pottery, thay had people who crafted it, some people were farmers, some were hunters, also you could even be a buisinessmen to trade and get materials for their art and everything else. To build their homes they had to carve them. They couldn't just go out and buy a home. Sense they got so much material, the Hopewell people built much larger mounds than the Adena culture.

Where They Lived

Between 2,200 and 1,500 years ago, the Hopewell people lived in the Eastern half of North America. They came up the Mississippi river from the Gulf of Mexico to get there. Some might of lived in where is now Michigan. For 500 years, the Hopewells were the strongest civilisation and then grew in the middle of the United States. They stretched from the Atlantic Ocean to the Great Plains, and from the Lake Superior to the Gulf Of Mexico to get to the place where they thought the wanted to live.

What The Men And What The Women Did

The women worked just like the men did. The Hopewell culture lived as farmers, hunters jewelry makers and some more. Both men and women could choose whatever they wanted to do, sort of like the Adena Culture. But all The Adenas, Fort Ancient and the Hopewell are all mound builders which will come in later. In a village there was about 5 or 6 people in a village. The men and women built their own houses for the village. The women could also stay home and clean if they wanted to and the kids could also choose what they wanted to do too. The kids could even help and grow up to be a farmer or even a hunter.

How They Dressed

Women usually had their hair pinned in a bun with wood or even with bones. Sometimes they had their hair in a ponnytail or a knot. Men usually had their hair in a mohawk and also they wore ornaments all over their body because that's what they liked. The Hopewell people wore lots of different things. Sometimes girls wore dresses, guys wore cloths that covered them, and everybodys clothes weren't even close to how complicated as our clothes now. The women's dresses were thin cloth and they were almost always dirty except after they just washed them with their hands.

What They Ate

The Hopewell people got lots of food sources from the Mississippi River. Animals came there so then now the Hopewells could eat them. Also lots of vegetation grew near there. When The Hopewell people hunted for food, everyone else was doing their job too, which means that no one really got to sit back and do nothing, Gatherers gathered, farmers farmed. Farmers had lots of food in their gardens like pumpkin, squash, sunflowers and corn. They got a lot of food from their gardens. The Hopewell people were probably the first people in Ohio to harvest corn. Also they got some of their food when they traveled. They bartered with other people to get other food and other things.

Their Mounds

The most important thing about the Hopewells is they built big and a lots of mounds. At one point in time there was at least 40 mounds. Mounds that you can see are mostly in state parks. Some are even by modern buildings, homes, and some by golf courses. One of their most famous mound that is in Ohio is The Great Serpent Mound. The Great Serpent Mound was one of those thousands of mounds that dotted Ohio. One of their earthworks is shaped like a star. It hasn't been truly checked out yet though. You can see the most spectacular mounds in southern Ohio and in Indiana, also around rivers like Little Miami, Scioto river and by the Muskingum river. The mound builders (which is The Adenas, The Fort Ancient people and The Hopewells) lived in more of the eastern half of the United States. The Hopewell people built mounds made out of earth materials that we and they called earth mounds. They got their name the Mound Builders because all the three cultures built lots of mounds. But the Hopewells built the Most mounds because they found the most materials.

Hopewell culture into number...

1) No one knows when or where the Hopewell people went. They all the sudden just disappeared. Most moved away from each other but then they disappeared. We don't know when because no one knows. It's a total mystery on when and where The Hopewell were when they disappeared. If you want to find out more about the Hopewell people like where they lived or what they wore you might be interested when you read this report.

2) If you want to know about where the Hopewell people lived, how the men worked and how the women worked, how they dressed, what they ate and all about the Hopewell peoples mounds (which their mounds are pretty cool because no one knows why they built them) then most likely you'll love this report.

3) Have you ever wondered what the Hopewell people ate and what they wore? Then you might want to try reading this report because you can learn SO much from it. If you read it, I bet you'll find something very interesting about the Hopewell people.
